I attended the
District Budget Committee Meeting at Pioneer High School last
Thursday. Don Iglesias as well as members of his staff and
the school board did a very good job of explaining what is going
on with the budget. As anticipated, SJUSD will feel it’s
share of the educational funding cuts. The good news is that
our district is in a very strong financial position, with reserves
in the bank and the ability to weather this current storm as it
stands. Although it could go off track by June, depending on
whether or not the propositions on the ballot pass in May as well
as the governor’s position on the budget after that, so stay
informed, get involved and stay tuned!
I highly
recommend that all concerned
parents and community members complete a Community Budget Survey
that allows us to give feedback on budget issues.
Please take a
moment and complete this survey for them at
www.sjusd.org. This is
one way we can do our part! Also, feel free to share it with
everyone you know in the district. And, there are hard
copies available in the school office.
I’d also like to
encourage you to attend one of the remaining District Budget
Committee meetings as there are two more meetings scheduled, one
at San Jose High and the final one at Willow Glen High. The
dates are on the San Jose Unified website as well.
I found them highly informative!
