Who is a Literacy Volunteer?
Job Description: No expertise in reading
is necessary. Anyone with a desire to listen to a child read is
welcome. If that's you or you know of grandparents or retired community
members that might be interested, please contact our school office at (408)
535-6297. We want to continue our reading lab program where volunteers
work with a TARGET Student on a 1-1 basis. Sarah Kateley is our Reading Lab Director, and
will oversee the management of this program and be in the lab daily.
Hours:
Ideally,
1 hour 45 minutes, once a week.
That would be 1:15 – 3:00pm on a Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday or Thursday.
You choose any one of these days.
That means you would help 2 children for 45
minutes each with a 15 minute break in between.
Substitutions can be arranged for occasional
vacations and/or illnesses.
How: Volunteers will do the same
activities everyday using a variety of materials planned by us!
When: The Reading Lab opens each fall in
mid October, and finishes during the middle of May. Tutoring does not
take place during school holidays.
Where: Our Reading Lab is located in the
school's Media Center.
Training:
Individual "on the job" training will be provided.
It's you!
