Lunch-time Science Sleuths
Once a month, each grade level looks for the “Science Sleuth” sign which is
their signal that it’s time for more science fun. Starting in first grade,
students are given the opportunity to have a special hands-on science lab led
by parent volunteers. Attendance rotates amongst all the students with the
exception of docents’ children who, if they wish, may attend every session.
Using simple materials, the students examine air pressure with floating
ghosts, states of matter with gooey gunk, bridge construction with blocks,
chemical reactions with bottle rockets and many other fun science activities.
Each month the teachers will select a few students
from each class to participate. The students eat their lunches then a
parent brings them to the science lab to do the lesson. There will be a
total of 7 lessons, so each student should participate at least once,
maybe twice. However,
if you volunteer to help with the program, your child can come every
time that you participate.
On the days we present the lesson, the schedule will be as follows:
12:15 Set up in the Science classroom
12:45 Bring the students in
12:45 - 1:15 Lesson
1:15 - 1:45 Clean up
