Mrs. Shyril McGuiness
August 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 School year at
Los Alamitos Elementary School. We are proud to be a Blue Ribbon School.
The first day of school is
Monday,
August 17, 2009. Please call the office at 535-6297 if your student is not able
to attend on the first day of school. Your child will be dropped by
Friday, August 21,2009 if we have not heard from you.
The daily schedule is as follows:
Kindergarten 8:55 a.m. to 12:55
p.m.
Grades
1-3 8:55 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
Grades 4-5 8:55
a.m. to 3:07 p.m.
Classroom assignments for all grades
including Kindergarten will be posted at 4:00pm
on Friday, August 14th, 2009 at the front of the school. All assignments will
be tentative until enrollment stabilizes.
On the first day of school, August 17th at 8:55am, all students will line up with their teachers on the black top then walk to their classrooms after announcements. Immediately following at 9:15am, there will be a PTA Welcome for Kindergarten parents in the cafeteria.
Please be on time, drive slowly and
safely during drop off and pick up. Please utilize the valet service, or the
designated drop off/pick up areas, or if possible walk to school. Traffic can
be hectic even dangerous during those times. We want to keep
our students safe.
All students are required to wear uniforms.
Uniform and school supply
information is posted in the window, and on this website.
A hot cafeteria lunch
is available for students in grades 1-5. The price for the lunch including milk
is $2.75. If ten or more lunches are purchased in advance, a discount is
given. Students may also purchase milk separately for
$.50. Food Services will be available on the first day of
school. Breakfast is not available at Los Alamitos.
If your child
utilizes the transportation system, you will receive information directly from
Transportation. If you have questions regarding transportation, please call
535-6185. Your child MUST wear a bus identification pass daily.
The Board of Education took final action to
change class size in grades kindergarten, first and second grades to 30:1.
Nearly every elementary site will be experiencing some change to their staff
of teachers. SJUSD is pleased to say that we were able to maintain our
teacher force by finding positions for teachers who were displaced through
retirements, resignations, and the 4th/5th grade PE program. I know that our
school's strong community will support our staff during this time of change.
Our students are our main focus. Our teachers will be ready greet them
on August 17th with enthusiasm, and we are expecting this to be an
excellent year. Thank you to our parents and to the entire community
for your care and support. You continue to be a vital part of the
educational process and are welcomed again this year to participate.
